According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the number of homeless Vietnam-era veterans is higher than the number of people who died during that war. A recent survey by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans found that nearly one in four homeless veterans has recently returned from combat in Afghanistan or Iraq.
Using the Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness "Opening Doors" as a guide, the Veterans Housing Alliance is determined to serve as many homeless veterans as possible by a "TAKE ACTION" approach to harnessing federal, state, and local resources and bringing together service providers, advocates, the private sector, and faith-based, philanthropic, and community organization leaders.
Opening Doors is the nation’s first comprehensive strategy to prevent and end homelessness, and the Veterans Housing Alliance will have a significant role by creating, engaging and managing the deeds and courses of action to help the at least 8,000 homeless veterans in Chicago obtain affordable housing, jobs, and access to health and behavioral health care.
Veterans Housing Alliance provides the safe, affordable housing and essential support services to our Veterans in need to help them go from surviving to thriving.
